It's about time to share pictures of the front of the house.

Hi, I am home, come on I'll show you the garden.

The bird says....

"Good grief ! Get that bath together already, I need a bath!"



This my northern or left side of my north western side of my house. What you see up close are my lavender phlox, snow on the mountain or is it snow in the summer. Several variegated Hostas, lots of ferns, a potted coral Begonia, and some dwarf dull pale yellow Iris, which haven't bloomed yet. The extras that you can't see are the wild violets purple and white, and Dead nettle up by the bird bath.
My phlox you see has taken the path instead of it's usual drapeing over the rock. i definately have work to do on that path. it is a little weedy.


Front View



As you see in the old 1940's built cape cod there is the a border on the left side and the right side border. Most of the annuals in pots were gifts this year for birthday and mothers day. Painting on some of the house was done last year in the fall. Perhaps again this year. The walk was suppose to continue left to right all the way and then a little path around the south side of the house.


Remind me to scatter more pink like that at the left side of this photo to more of this little area. Actually the hidden creeping phlox is suppose to repeat that color from left to right. So now what. I thought the Iceberg rose had hints of pink.
I know that is Bishop Weed. But I like it. However, I have to much of everything there. I need help making up my mind, of what to delete from there.
Up until Sunday I had yellowish creeping Jenny there in front of the rocks, but I used them in an arrangement.

See here is the undefined cl Iceberg rose. It doesn't show the pretty blush. I kind of wanted pink and purple here. But I haven't enough of the blooming perennials, to be that after all. I really have been trying hard to get larkspur to grow here. If I could afford it, I would love fox gloves and oriental lilies as well.

Notice: the variegation on the Dames rockets. Many years of seeding has made them unique.

I do love the pale look of silver, white and pastels. I suppose it is a bit much against the house. It is cottage, though all the way.


It is suppose to be a mixture of many Hostas on right and left side. I am going to have to make my creeping phlox more visible. where marked by x in photo above. I believe I will have to remove some more plants to give my creeping hosta room. Sometimes I wonder how Snow in the Summer plant would do over here. Perhaps it would be washed out by Bishop weed. Or Gout Weed.

Growing in front all along those rocks are the two colors lavender and Rose creeping phlox.

In several weeks time, on this side of the steps, the plant along the house siding will bloom light pink with a lavender tinge.

Note: I cut back that Yew last week cause of all the rusty color through out the tree. Last year I had a tippy pot there by the steps. I am not sure what to do with that pipe on the right side of the steps. I had hoped to put a pot over it or some ornament.

I am open for suggestions on any of these garden beds!

Memorial Day has come and gone. The days and flowers past

Hi, I thought I would show the progress of the same scenes, but with progress of more bloom.

Lets start with the south west most corner of our very narrow lot.

Have a seat in the shade. Only problem with that is that the seat faces away to someone elses view and the bench doesn't belong to me! I applaud the selection of the bench. [ And that volunteer Maple so has to go.]

Johnson Blue hardy geranium here looks blue, though it is actully purple. It is pretty purple flowering plant, which I have other areas for it's use, also. But at one time I did want to use blue here.

I think the bush needs a better trim. And Perhaps some plants are a little close.

BACK YARD TEASER


This photo has the hint of the tree that will be in the upcoming photos. I was told that this is an Indigo tree, which I was told takes part shade. But it seems that it can take bright light and loves to go to the light on their own, if put in an shaded area.

The best part of this time period is the Indigo bush blooms. I am so proud the little trees are full and beautiful. They really have outdone themselves to take over from the shine of the lilacs now dulling.

Our property is a narrow double lot. The eastern most section was a result I guess of what at one time was a alley through the block. It has always been a garden area as long as I have been there. Which is nearly thirty years. Before my attempts it was an open garden area, now it partly wooded. Which I hope to change in order to return some of the areas to sunlight for vegetable growing.

In the two photos below you see the Indigo trees which are mostly on the west and south side of that extra garden lot.

Remember the last two weeks, I have been showing you the connection area between my side and my neighbors side. I mentioned the fern area and the Dead nettle plant. I said that you couldn't see the Dames rockets or Hesperis Matronalis which were still growing. Well now you can see for yourself that they have bloomed.

If we look the more westernly of the north west view we don't see the wood duck house but the ferns and Dames rocket. Our last weeks photos showed the lilac trees off to the left in bloom.

You gotta love the Dames rockets. I have them everywhere. The problem with them is they are typical dames, they go where they please for show. These migrated to the neighbors side of the woods. They are less on my side now. I suspect it is because of the Dead Nettle and the Ferns.



It's such a shame that it is really hard to photograph lavender flowers.

Below is photo of a view from my south side looking North into the neighbors woods area.
I just love my Dames rockets in bloom. Out of bloom not so much. I just wish I knew why they went over to my neighbors. Maybe my ferns and Dead nettle pushed them out? Maybe the direction of the wind? Or it is slightly down hill from mine?.

I wish I knew how to get a good photograph of these flowers. I had to darken most of these. I don't know how to shut off the flash. That might help. Or maybe pick another time of day. I always seem to be out at noon or slightly after noon.

Okay, enough now of those views. Lets move on.

The first two are not much really, but the color slightly out of focus kind of speaks to me. Kind of like a Monet. If they had been done right they may not be the same effect. Also, anyone with a different screen than I may see these different, of course.

Well you have seen my hand made woods as it is. I suspect the next time you see it may have changed. I haven't done any of my trimming yet. I have a few trees that I want to take out. All of which will influence the amount of shade involved. I think nearly all the plants will manage just fine.

As for the house yard, there are still a few more changes coming as summer arrives. I hope to record it all. If your interested at all, please check back for that.
